AUGUST
August is one of those strange times in the historical and modern day Methodist Church. Some clergy are moving on to pastures new whilst others are moving in to new appointments [some their very first circuit appointment] others are staying where they are and are probably taking a long break from ministerial duties whilst many of the normal Church meetings and functions are suspended [and becoming "human" again].
Congregations feel in limbo as well, as the majority of Services are taken by local preachers or are done under Local Arrangement.
Congregations are also lower in all but "tourist” areas as people take their holidays. I am not sure maybe you could tell me but is the sort of old tradition of when you go on holiday say to a seaside resort you visit the local Methodist Church, or is it more than likely these days that a visit to a seaside resort does not include a visit to the local church on a Sunday.[or is it that so many people go abroad that it does not make any difference.]
I know in my own case that I will not be visiting a local Church whilst on Holiday as a floating church does not appear on the waters that we will be cruising.
Just some ramblings but it would be interesting to hear some of your views via the communications’ e mail.

SECRET VISITOR
CHURCHES throughout the north of England are on alert for an unannounced visitor on Sun 7 September 2008. For the first time, more than 20 ChurchCheck researchers will descend on a secret list of services throughout the north of England - from Lancashire to Newcastle, Cumbria to Sheffield - giving their view from the pew on warmth of welcome, length of sermon, quality of music and much, much more. All trained mystery shoppers, few, if any, of the researchers will be regular church-goers. Their findings will be presented at the Northern Christian Resources Exhibition (CRE) in Harrogate (25 Sep-27 Sep).
Mary’s Lamb.

Mary had a little Lamb,
His fleece was white as snow.
And everywhere that Mary went,
The Lamb was sure to go.

He followed her to school each day,
T’wasn’t even in the rule.
It made the children laugh and play,
To have a Lamb at school.

And then the rules all changed one day,
Illegal it became:
To bring the Lamb of God to school,
Or even speak His Name!

Every day got worse and worse,
And days turned into years.
Instead of hearing children laugh,
We heard gunshots and then tears.

What must we do to stop the crime
That’s in our schools today?
Let’s let the Lamb come back to school,
And teach our kids to pray!

PRAYER BEFORE A MEETING

Heavenly Father, be present with us now.
Let all our deliberations tend to your glory and the furtherance of the Gospel.
Let our discussions be charitable and our conclusions fruitful.
May the breeze of your Holy Spirit breathe among us instead of long-windedness.
Let there be no fighting of corners or sacrificing long term trust for short term popularity.
In short, dear Father may this meeting end on time, with your kingdom furthered.
Through the one who used few words but to great effect, Jesus Christ Our Lord. AMEN
